Our 7-Step Carpet Cleaning Process
Most carpet cleaning companies say “professional deep clean” without explaining what that actually means. Here is exactly what we do on every job in Medford and the Rogue Valley.

Thorough Dry Pre-Vacuum
We vacuum before any water or cleaning solution touches the carpet. This single step removes up to 90% of dry soil from carpet fibers — loose dirt, dust, pet hair, allergens, wildfire ash. If we skipped this and went straight to wet extraction, dry soil would turn to muddy slurry and make the job harder and less effective. Most carpet cleaning companies skip pre-vacuuming because it takes 15–20 minutes. We don’t skip it because it makes a real, measurable difference in the final result.
Fiber-Matched Pre-Spray Application
We apply a pre-conditioner — a cleaning solution that is specifically selected for your carpet’s fiber type and the type of soiling present. An oily kitchen carpet needs different chemistry than a smoke-affected bedroom carpet. A nylon fiber responds differently to alkaline pre-spray than a polyester fiber. The pre-conditioner sits on the carpet for a dwell period (typically 5–10 minutes) that allows it to emulsify oily soil and break down the bonds between soil particles and carpet fiber. This chemical loosening is what makes hot water extraction so much more effective than hot water alone.
Hot Water Extraction — The Core Step
Our truck-mounted system heats water to 195–240°F and injects it into your carpet fibers under pressure through a cleaning wand. The jets simultaneously extract the water, loosened soil, allergens, dust mites, bacteria, and pre-spray chemistry back through the hose to the truck’s recovery tank. The carpet never touches that contaminated water again. This is why truck-mounted cleaning is superior to portable units: our suction is generated by a gas engine producing commercial-grade vacuum — roughly 5–10 times the suction of any portable or rental machine. More extraction means cleaner carpet and faster drying.
pH-Balanced Rinse
After hot water extraction, we apply a neutralizing rinse solution that returns the carpet fiber to a neutral pH (approximately 7.0). This step is often skipped by lower-cost carpet cleaners — and it’s why carpets cleaned by cheap services often re-soil faster. If cleaning chemistry (which is alkaline) remains in the fiber, it acts like a magnet for new soil. Our pH rinse removes this residue, leaving fibers chemically neutral and resistant to rapid re-soiling.
Dry Stroke Extraction
After the rinse extraction, we make additional passes without water — “dry strokes” — using the wand in vacuum-only mode. These passes pull out additional moisture that would otherwise extend drying time. The dry stroke technique is one of the most important factors in our 2–4 hour summer drying time versus the 8–12+ hours that over-wet carpet takes. Every pass we make during dry strokes is an hour less you wait for your carpet to be walkable.
Carpet Raking, Grooming & Final Walkthrough
We rake the carpet fibers to an upright position before leaving. This does two things: the fibers dry evenly without matting flat, and the carpet has a fresh, full appearance rather than the flat look wet carpet develops. We place protective tabs under metal furniture legs to prevent rust transfer to damp fibers. Then we walk through with you to review the results and answer any questions.
