Local History
Phoenix, Oregon and the 2020 Almeda Fire
The Almeda Fire of September 8–9, 2020 burned through Phoenix and Talent, destroying nearly 2,400 structures — the most destructive wildfire in Oregon history by structure count at the time. South Phoenix Road, the Highway 99 corridor, and the Bear Creek Greenway path through town were all in the fire’s path. The community has been rebuilding since.
For Phoenix homeowners who survived the fire in homes with smoke damage but no structural loss, the 2020 event left PM2.5 particulate in carpet fibers that standard cleaning in the years following has not fully addressed. We’ve cleaned homes in the Phoenix area that experienced the 2020 event and still carry detectable smoke odor — particularly in carpeted bedrooms and living rooms with south-facing windows that were open during the fire.
The rebuild era (2021–2025) produced significant new residential construction throughout 97535. Many of these homes had their first professional carpet clean from us — removing drywall dust, construction adhesive residue, and the concrete particulate common in post-fire rebuild sites that settles into new carpet during the first months of occupancy.

What Phoenix Carpets Deal With Year-Round
🔥 Post-Fire & Annual Wildfire Smoke
Phoenix’s position south of Medford along Bear Creek puts it in the primary smoke corridor for Rogue Valley fire events. Annual wildfire smoke from July–September, combined with the community’s history with the 2020 Almeda event, makes PM2.5 carpet treatment our most common Phoenix call. Most Phoenix homeowners have never had their carpets treated with an oxidizing pre-spray — they’ve had standard cleaning that misses the smoke compounds.
🏭 Rebuild-Era New Construction
Hundreds of homes in Phoenix were rebuilt between 2021 and 2025. New construction carpet accumulates drywall dust, adhesive residue, and construction debris that requires a specific extraction protocol. We recommend cleaning before the first resident moves in — drywall dust sets harder once it’s been walked on and dried repeatedly.
🌿 Bear Creek Greenway Mud & Soil
The Bear Creek Greenway passes through Phoenix and is actively used year-round. Residents who walk or run the greenway track organic soil, creek bank clay, and seasonal mud into carpets continuously from October through April.
🐾 High Pet Density Rentals
Phoenix has a significant rental population — workforce housing along the Highway 99 corridor includes apartment complexes with multi-pet units. Move-out cleans with pet enzyme treatment and dated landlord receipts are a routine service in 97535.

Phoenix Job: 2021 Rebuild Home — Construction Particulate Before Move-In
The Situation
A Phoenix homeowner in a 2021 rebuild on South Phoenix Road contacted us three weeks after construction completion — the home had new nylon carpet throughout three bedrooms and a hallway, but pre-move-in inspection showed visible gritty texture in the pile and a faint concrete smell. The builder’s team had cleaned hard surfaces but hadn’t touched the carpet. The homeowner also requested we assess for residual smoke odor from the 2020 event (the original structure on this lot had burned; the rebuilt home was fully new construction).
What We Did
Heavy dry pre-vacuum to prevent drywall dust turning to plaster mud during extraction. Odor check — no residual Almeda smoke detected in the new construction; smoke doesn’t transfer to new building materials. Mild alkaline pre-spray at reduced concentration for new carpet. Truck-mounted HWE at 195°F, two extraction passes, pH-balanced rinse, dry stroke pass — drying time target under 3 hrs before furniture delivery the following morning.
The Result
Carpet soft, clean, odor-neutral after 2.5-hour drying time. No gritty texture. Homeowner confirmed furniture moved in the following day without issue.
